The news is out! Oregon ABF is now NWBandFest! Why? We have had, during the past 20 years (as long as I have been in Oregon), Oregon Community Bands, Brass Bands, Novelty Ensembles, Military Bands et al, at various venues throughout our State. Our groups have come from our Portland metro Area, from Southern Oregon, from the coast, Vancouver, and from as far as Everett Washington.

The Organising Committee felt we should more accurately describe who we are…..Musically, we are so much more than Oregon!

This year, the Northwest Band Festival [] will be on Saturday March 7, 2020 at Rex Putnam High School. We will again partner with the music students of the ensembles there and their Band Director, Mr Jeff Wilson.

With this re-branding, we will be open to non-string ensembles of all types —brass, ww, percussion, windband, specialty groups.

Our fellow musicians, the Rex Putnam Wind Ensemble directed by Jeff Wilson. who will have been greeters, runners, ticket takers, raffle sellers, stage crew, etc. will be featured at the end of the day with a performance.

We will also make available the lobby area for small groups [from your larger ensemble] —trios-quintets just to ‘entertain’ informally throughout the day without distracting from the stage events.

Throughout the day, our announcers will read your provided announcements to our listeners.

We believe that will provide a more streamlined event, and a better use of your performance window. In that way, this will allow the band directors to—well, to direct their ensembles!!

There are two Festival options for you.

50 minute window [set up, play as much as YOU want, and a microphone-enabled clinician [who will have scores provided by you in advance] will provide a positive clinic experience on stage before the audience to your group for the remaining time. As you can see, more efficient use of your time window is really important. The registration fee for the clinic experience will be $225.

30 window [set up, play, exit] to perform without the clinic option. The registration fee for this option will be $175.

Our clinicians will be Michael Burch-Pesses of Pacific University and the Oregon Symphonic Band and Mr. Jeff Wilson of Rex Putnam High School. Please see their bios on our website. With a two-tiered system—it is likely that the non-clinic segments will be earlier in the day. The number of available band spots depends on what you and your ensemble want. We hope we can accommodate 8-15 bands from 9AM-8PM. What this means, in a practical sense, is that you should not hesitate about registering for the festival. We will try to let you know on the site what the registration ‘count’ is as it happens. We truly do not want to tell you that there isn’t any more space available. Last year, we able to accommodate one ‘late’ ensemble because others who had already registered, agreed to be more flexible with their time slots.

Beginning October 1, 2019, you may register at Also consider whether you want to additionally participate in the small group part. NOTE: Due to the potential two-tiered nature of this event, we can’t ask you to provide your choices of preferred performance times, but we will base our scheduling on the post mark of when we receive your registration fee.

Admission to the NWBandFest 2020 will be $5.00 for all non-performing adults. [these funds will go to support the Rex Putnam Band Program] Students of all ages are welcome at no cost.

Food items, provided by the Rex Putnam Band Boosters, will be available for purchase, and proceeds will also go to support the Rex Putnam Band Program. There are many restaurants within a 5-minute drive of the venue.

There will be raffle items provided by our Music Vendor friends in Oregon and Washington who will likely have demonstration tables for your players.
